SofaCart Privacy Policy

This policy describes how the operator of SofaCart at sofacart.app (“SofaCart,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the SofaCart website, Chrome extension, and related services.

SofaCart helps people turn meal ideas, shopping lists, saved preferences, and pantry inventory into a grocery cart they review and control. This policy explains what information SofaCart collects, why it is used, when it is shared, and the choices available to you.

Information we collect

• Account information: name, email address, password hash, session information, and account timestamps. If you sign in with Google, we receive the account identifiers Google provides for that sign-in.
• Planning and shopping information: meal prompts, generated recipes and grocery items, ingredients, saved stores, product-selection evidence, and your food, shopping, price, and preparation preferences.
• Pantry information: items you add to your pantry and photos you choose to take of your pantry so SofaCart can suggest items you already have.
• Extension activity you initiate: bounded retailer page content, product names, prices, links, cart-state evidence, and active-tab screenshots used to determine readiness or select products on supported grocery services (including Uber Eats, Instacart, DoorDash, and Ralphs).
• Payment information: when you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe. SofaCart receives subscription status and limited billing metadata; SofaCart does not store full payment-card numbers.
• Analytics information: the marketing site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect aggregated usage information such as page views and approximate location derived from IP address.
• Technical information: service logs, request errors, and security or reliability information. SofaCart does not intentionally log passwords, session tokens, or screenshot or pantry-photo image contents in application logs.

How we use information

• Provide accounts, saved preferences, generated-item history, pantry memory, and saved stores.
• Generate meal and grocery suggestions and explain when saved preferences influenced them.
• Match ingredients to products and assist with a cart fill you initiate and review.
• Process subscriptions and payments through Stripe.
• Understand marketing-site usage through GA4.
• Maintain security, prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures, and improve service reliability.
• Comply with applicable law and enforce our agreements.

How information is shared

SofaCart does not sell personal information. Information is shared only as needed to provide the service, including with infrastructure providers; Google for sign-in and Google's Gemini API for AI-assisted meal planning, page classification, and product selection; Stripe for payment processing; Google Analytics 4 for marketing-site measurement; and grocery retailers or delivery services when you use SofaCart to add items to a cart you review on their sites. Those third-party services process information under their own terms and privacy policies. SofaCart may also disclose information when required by law or to protect users, the service, or the public.

California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information SofaCart holds about you, and information about the categories of personal information collected and the categories of third parties with whom it is shared. SofaCart does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To make a request, contact contact@sofacart.app. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. You will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

Retention and security

SofaCart retains account, pantry, and shopping information while needed to provide the service, satisfy legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the service. Pantry photos are used to extract item suggestions and are retained only as needed for that feature. Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

• You may use email sign-in instead of Google sign-in.
• You may choose not to upload pantry photos and may continue using SofaCart by adding pantry items yourself.
• You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information SofaCart holds about you.
• You may sign out to revoke the current SofaCart session.

Children

SofaCart is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as SofaCart changes. The effective date above will be revised when changes are published. Material changes will be communicated through the service or another appropriate channel.
